COPPER PEAK

Copper Peak is the world’s largest artificial ski jump and the only one of its kind in the western hemisphere. Visitors can take a chairlift ride to the top, use an elevator to reach the observation deck, and then walk 60 feet to the upper platform for panoramic views across the Midwest. From the start of the top chute, the ski jump’s steep in-run is three times the height of Niagara Falls, offering a unique and memorable experience.

 

Copper Peak is currently undergoing redevelopment to host international competitions. Due to construction, check availability.​

  • ​​​​Hiawatha - Ironwood, MI 

    • Hiawatha is the world’s tallest and largest Native American statue, standing 52 feet tall and weighing 16,000 pounds. Located just a few blocks south of Ironwood’s downtown, the statue faces north toward Lake Superior. ​

  • Iron County Historical Museum - Hurley, WI 

    • The Iron County Historical Museum in Hurley, originally built in 1893 as a courthouse, now showcases three floors of exhibits highlighting the region’s mining, railroad, and logging history. Visitors can explore historic photographs, including the work of early photographer Emma Sackett, and see the museum’s iconic 120-foot clock tower that still chimes today. The museum also features a weaving room where volunteers create and sell handwoven rugs using traditional looms. View hours here​.​

  • Ironwood Depot Park - Ironwood, MI 

    • Built in 1892, the Ironwood Depot served passenger trains until the 1970s, after which the railroad tracks were removed. The site is now Ironwood Depot Park, which serves as the trailhead for both the Cross-State and Regional bike trails and the Western Upper Peninsula snowmobile trails. The park includes a pavilion that hosts farmers markets and volleyball courts for community use. The historic depot building houses the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce office and a museum maintained by the Ironwood Area Historical Society. â€‹

Hiawatha

  • ​​​Miners Memorial Heritage Park - Ironwood, MI 

    • Miners Park is located on the reclaimed site of late 19th- and early 20th-century iron mines that supplied metal for America’s industrial revolution. The mid-20th-century moonscape, locally known as the “caves,” has been reclaimed by nature and transformed into 165 acres of woods, trails, and year-round community activities in the heart of Ironwood, Michigan. ​​

  • Miners Mural - Ironwood, MI

    • ​Located at the corner of McLeod Avenue and Suffolk Street in downtown Ironwood, the Miners Mural pays tribute to the generations of men who worked the Gogebic Range mines of Michigan and Wisconsin. Dedicated to the thousands of miners whose labor spanned more than 80 years—from the 1880s through the mid-1960s—this striking artwork is one of two murals within walking distance in downtown Ironwood.

  • Mt. Zion Overlook - Ironwood, MI

    • ​Located at the top of Mt. Zion Ski Hill near Gogebic Community College, the observation deck offers expansive views of the surrounding landscape facing Lake Superior. The road to the deck is closed in winter but remains accessible to visitors skiing at the hill. This viewpoint is especially popular during the fall season when the foliage is vibrant. (Pictured above)

  • ​Plummer Mine Headframe - Pence, WI

    • ​The 80-foot steel headframe standing between Pence and Iron Belt off Highway 77 is the last of its kind in Wisconsin and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally part of a mine that operated from 1904 to 1924, its shaft once reached a depth of 2,367 feet. Today, the site serves as an interpretive park honoring the region’s iron mining heritage. The landmark is accessible via an ATV/UTV trail.​

DISC GOLF 

  • Mt. Zion Disc Golf Course - Ironwood, MI

    • ​An 18-hole course located at Gogebic Community College. The course winds across the ski hill, offering scenic views and varied terrain.

  • Norrie Park Disc Golf Course - Ironwood, MI 

    • ​A 9-hole course set in the community park in Ironwood, MI. The layout follows paths through the park and along the Montreal River.
